The Royal Philharmonic Society was founded in London in 1813 by a group of professional musicians and through an unbroken series of concert seasons, from that time to the 1980s, it promoted new music, established orchestral standards and brought some of the greatest musicians to British audiences. The list of premieres includes works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Elgar and Vaughan Williams, among many others.
