Rafal Luc (accordion)Rafal Luc was born in 1987 in Wroclaw, Poland, and graduated with honours from one of the best music schools in Poland -- the Karol Szymanowski Music School in Wroclaw. During his time at this school he studied classical accordion with his father, Zbigniew Luc. Rafal studied with Zbigniew Ignaczewski at the Academy of Music in Lódz in 2006/7, and was then accepted into the Royal Academy of Music under the direction of Professor Owen Murray in September of 2007 where he will study until 2011.
Rafal has been awarded numerous prestigeous prizes, including 1st prize in the International Wroclaw, Czestochowa, Przemysl (Poland), Reinach (Switzerland), and Bratislav (Slovak Republic) competitions; 2nd prize in the Vilnus (Lithuania) competition, 3rd prize in the Gdansk and Chelm (Poland) competitions; and 6th prize in Castelfidardo (Italy).
Rafal has had a very active concert life that began at age 10, and has since given over 200 recitals as well as a concerto debut with orchestra at age 13. His most important performances were with orchestras in Wroclaw, Czestochowa, Lódz, Magdeburg (Germany), Malmo (Sweden), and Copenhagen (Denmark), as well as solo in Lazienki Palace, Royal Castle (Warsaw), Centennial Hall(for the audience of 2000 people), Wroclaw's Town Hall, Polish Radio Concert Hall, Aula Leopoldinum, Oratorium Marianum, and Literature Club (in Wroclaw).
He also performed in the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Italy, England, Switzerland and has made recordings for Polish television and radio.
Rafal has taken part in many masterclasses with leading international and Polish accordionists including Mika Vayrynen, Vojin Vasovic, Richardas Sviackevicius, Joachim Pichura, and Bogdan Dowlasz.
For his achievements Rafal was also awarded scholarships from the Minister of Culture, Local Goverment of Lower Silesia, and the International Education Foundation.
In January 2009 he will play in prestigious Purcell Room in London according to Park Lane Group Competition.
