Elizabeth Traill read Music at the University of Durham before studying vocal performance within English National Opera’s Baylis Programme.   A recent graduate of the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, she was generously supported by a number of scholarships including the RSAMD Trust Fund, the Music Sound Foundation Award and a Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarship.  She is currently a Royal Philharmonic Society designated Young Artist and has recently won the Susan Chilcott Scholarship, Hampshire Singer of the Year Competition and Second Prize in the intercollegiate Clonter Opera Competition.

Operatic roles include Königin der Nacht Die Zauberflöte for Dartington Festival Opera (supported by the GAM London bursary), Le Fée Cendrillon in a collaboration between the RSAMD, St Petersburg State Conservatoire and the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Flight Controller Flight (Jonathan Dove), Le Feu and Le Rossignol L’enfant et les sortileges  (cover), Damon Acis and Galatea (cover) all for the RSAMD,  Adele Die Fledermaus/ Gilda Rigoletto (in excerpt) for Clonter Opera, and Harriet the Irrascible Lunatic On Thee We Feed (Richard Chew) with the ENO Baylis Programme.

On the concert platform recent engagements have included recital in the 2006 Winchester Festival and performances of the Britten War Requiem, Orff Carmina Burana, Mozart Mass in C Minor,  Mozart Litaniae de venerabili altaris sacramento, Rossini Petit Messe Solennelle and Mozart Exultate Jubilate.

Future engagements include Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate with the Southern Sinfonia in January and February and the cover role of Adele Die Fledermaus for Scottish Opera next Spring.

The revelation of the evening was Elizabeth Traill, as Fairy God-mother.  Massenet gave her a Queen of Night take-off, and she encompassed it triumphantly, with colour and style as well as flickering accuracy in the coloratura stratosphere.
