Awards

The Royal Philharmonic Society strives to promote the highest possible standards of excellence in all aspects of musicianship.

The Society’s two highest honours, the Gold Medal and Honorary Membership, have been awarded since the 19th Century  for exceptional musical achievement and for personal contributions to musical life.  Many prominent names feature on the lists of recipients including Weber, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Verdi, Toscanini, Ferrier, Barbirolli, Karajan and Richter.

The annual RPS Music Awards are the highest recognition for live classical music-making in the United Kingdom.   As well as recognising individual artists, ensembles and composers, there are awards for education, audience development and communication in music.

Together with the Performing Right Society the RPS presents the Leslie Boosey Award to a programmer broadcaster, educationalist or administrator for an oustanding contribution to contemporary music in Britain.
